Instructions

Bracelet #1

Step 1

Cut two 15-inch lengths and one 36-inch length of Hemptique® 1mm diameter hemp cord.

Step 2

Tie the two 15-inch lengths of cord together. Then tie a knot the right distance from the first knot so that a 15mm round button can slide into the space between the two knots.

Step 3

Pin or tape down the knotted end of the two lengths of cord.

Step 4

Fold the 36-inch length of cord in half. Tie the 36-inch cord in an overhand knot around the two 15-inch cords. Slide the knot in the 36-inch cord up against the lower knot in the 15-inch cords.

Step 5

Take the section of the 36-inch cord on the left and cross it over the top of the two 15-inch cords, positioning it between the 36-inch cord on the right and the two 15-inch cords. Do not pull it tightly but leave a loop on the left.

Step 6

Take the section of the 36-inch cord on the right and cross it over the top of the 36-inch cord you moved in Step 5. Then cross it under the two 15-inch cords and up through the loop you left in Step 5. Pull the cords snug.

Step 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6, starting with the cord on the right this time. Alternate from side to side (left to right) as you keep creating the knots. For more instructions on a macrame square knot, see “Macrame Basics, Techniques and Finishing Techniques.”

Step 8

Once you reach your desired length, finish the cord with an overhand knot. Place a drop of G-S Hypo Cement® on the knot and let the adhesive dry.

Step 9

Thread two cords into each of the holes of a 15mm black lip shell round button. Tie the cords in a knot so it ends up hidden behind the button. Place a drop of G-S Hypo Cement® on the knots and let the adhesive dry.

Step 10

Using an 8mm 16-gauge silver-plated twisted round jump ring, attach an antique silver-plated fox charm to the bracelet.

Bracelet #2

Step 1

Cut four 15-inch lengths and two 6-inch lengths of Hemptique® 1mm diameter hemp cord.

Step 2

At one end, wrap one of the 6-inch cords around all four of the 15-inch cords and make a snug whipping knot. Trim off the excess 6-inch cord and use a lighter or other heat source to top-melt and secure the strands.

Step 3

Lay the four strands down, securing them with a pin or tape near the knots, and separate them so you have two cords in the middle and two cords on the sides.

Step 4

String an 8x7mm sugar maple rondelle bead onto the two center cords and push it to the top of the cords near the knots.

Step 5

Wrap the left and right cords over the two center cords so they are now in the center.

Step 6

String an 8x7mm sugar maple rondelle bed onto the two center cords (the ones that used to be on the outside).

Step 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until your bracelet reaches the desired length. Then finish the bracelet with the other 6-inch cord and a whipping knot. Place a drop of G-S Hypo Cement® on the knot and let the adhesive dry.

Step 8

Finish the bracelet with a slider knot.

Bracelet #3

Step 1

Cut one 12-inch length of Hemptique® 1mm diameter hemp cord.

Step 2

String on your choice of beads. To replicate the design shown, string on a pattern of three 8x4mm dark forest green Taiwanese cheesewood rondelle beads followed by one 5x3mm antiqued “pewter” double beaded rondelle bead.

Step 3

Finish the bracelet with a slider knot. Then cut off the excess cord and tie surgeon’s knots in the ends. Place a drop of G-S Hypo Cement® on the surgeon’s knot and let the adhesive dry.
